GE Smallworld Spatial Object Managers

GE Smallworld is committed to open data access, The Spatial Object Managers are data access plug-ins for all GE Smallworld systems and currently provide access to data in DXF, DGN, DWG, Shapefile and MrSID formats. The latest additions to the range of Spatial Object Managers include:

  • ECW - from ERMapper - another high compression format for managing raster data;
  • a wide range of Raster and image formats, including TIFF, PNG, JPEG, PCX, BMP and WMF;
  • the Web Map Server (WMS) format for interpreting data served over the Internet.

Access to data over the Internet
The WMS Spatial Object Manager interprets the Web Map Server format proposed by the OpenGIS Consortium that defines how to present data served over the Internet.

The GE Smallworld Internet Application Server uses the WMS standard to serve data to client applications over the Internet.

Illustrating your network with raster images
The Raster Spatial Object Manager will handle access to a number of commonly used raster formats. Imagine the value of being able to show not only where a problem water valve is but the design drawing showing how it was constructed and now also a recent photo showing exactly how far the corrosion or other problem has progressed.

Getting the right information to the right people at the right time is a key part of GE Smallworld's focus on your success.
