Configuration

Introduction
Smallworld 3 system is a powerful tool which can be customised to handle a variety of applications. It is also capable of being adapted to company standards by editing the user interface. Smallworld 3 has a variety of configuration features that allow organisations to tailor the GIS to suit the needs of different groups of users. This course has been designed for the individual with the responsibility for configuring a particular user group, and makes an application convenient for the project on which it is used.

Audience

  • Staff that have the requirement to set-up the user environment for a project.

    Prerequisites
    Attendance of the Foundation course. Knowledge of the drawing/mapping function in the application area in which the Smallworld system will be used.

    Aims and Objectives

    • An understanding of how to define the menus shown in the Main Graphics Window.
    • Practical experience of designing the appearance of graphic symbols.
    • An understanding of how to control which objects (user and system) are available in a session.
    • Practical experience of defining templates for plots and reports.
    • Setting up Authorisation system for restricting user access to the database.

    Style system The methods used to change the way geometry is displayed to the user. ACE The Application Configuration Environment facilities allow the user to modify the user interface and data access (controlling the availability and use of menus, accelerator keys, scales, objects). Tools View configuration, message system, and authorisation.
