Introduction
GE Smallworld 3 provides an extremely powerful development toolkit that allows many changes and additions to the system. This course provides necessary information to develop the customised applications on top of or around GE Smallworld 3

Audience

  • Application Developers who are following the full GE Smallworld customisation programme.

Prerequisites
Those attending the course should already have attended the Foundation and Magik courses. They should be Software Engineers with at least two years experience in software development with a sound knowledge of programming.

Aims and Objectives
After attending this course, students should have

  • An understanding and practical experience of how to develop an application around GE Smallworld 3.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the advanced aspects of the Magik language, applied to GIS development.
  • Knowledge and understanding to the CASE Tool and Data Modelling as used in GE Smallworld 3
  • Knowledge and understanding of methods and procedures for: accessing GE Smallworld 3 databases
  • Specifying and customising editors
  • Customisation within the Style system
  • Understanding of how COM Automation can be used to export data to other desktop applications.
  • Understanding of how COM Automation can be used to develop User Interfaces in languages such as Visual Basic
