Smallworld 2000 Attendees Hit the Jackpot!
Smallworld 2000 for the Americas, held September 25th to 27th in Las Vegas, Nevada, exceeded expectations. With the largest attendance ever - more than 600 - and the most exhibitors - 25 of them - the conference was a resounding success. Smallworld 2000 provided an excellent venue for attendees to network with fellow Smallworld users and learn about the latest in GE Smallworld's network software.
Nearly 50 education sessions were presented by technology experts and customers.
Topic tracks included the Internet, Communications, Utility, Management & Training, and Operations Management. The annual "Birds of a Feather" sessions, which encourage customers to ask questions, help guide the future of products, and share their knowledge with one another, were well attended.
The Smallworld showcase offered hands-on demonstrations of the latest in Smallworld software.
A variety of pavilions offered solutions in the following areas: Engineering Management, Operations Management, Internet, New Technology, Spatial Technology, and Communications. Extreme interest was generated in GE Smallworld's new Internet Application Server (SIAS). The software provides a geo-spatial dimension to e-business applications, using industry standards. Also popular was the soon-to-be-released upgrade of PowerOn. In addition, attendees were able to explore the many complementary solutions and technology offered at the partner exhibit booths.
Rapid growth has become the norm at GE Smallworld.
As Warren mentioned in his opening speech, there are 750 customers on the UPS side. On the Communications side, 5 of the top 10 Telcos in the world are customers of GE Smallworld. The entire country of New Zealand uses Model.it and Circ.it. The technology presented at the conference, and the ever-expanding client list, are testament to the fact that GE Smallworld is leading the way to more innovative and effective network design and management.
